MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, Sept. 21, 2015 – Large swathes of Australia’s workforce are at risk of being replaced by computerisation and technology as the nation fails to equip them with the required skills for the future – but an upcoming workshop hosted by computer-based testing company Pearson VUE will discuss potential assessment solutions.
Recent analysis by PwC (Future-proofing Australia’s workforce by growing skills in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) /April 2015) shows that 44 per cent (5.1 million) of Australian jobs are now at risk of being affected by computerisation and technology over the next 20 years and the 2015 ManpowerGroup Talent Shortage Survey found that 42 percent of Australian employers report difficulty in filling jobs.
Workshop host Adrian Evans, vice president for Australia and South East Asia at Pearson VUE, said: “Whatever the profession or sector, assessing role competency is becoming ever more challenging. External influences across Australia such as the need to better measure workplace skills, increasing competition for jobs and for professional qualifications, digitisation and even legislative changes, may be impacting the effectiveness of professional examinations.
”The negative effects of the skills gap on jobs and the economy could be prevented by making learning and assessment more relevant to the skills required in the 21st century workplace. This means exam owners adapting their content.”
The workshop, which takes place on 13th October in Melbourne, will involve expert discussion on integrating virtual question writing processes, content management and making the right exam delivery choices.
